Understanding Naturalization
Most lawful permanent residents become eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship after either:

Three years as a lawful permanent resident if married to and living with a U.S. citizen for at least three years; or

Five years as a lawful permanent resident.
Every case is unique, and eligibility should be evaluated based on an individual's circumstances.
Applicants must also meet additional eligibility requirements, including:

At least 90 days of residence within the appropriate district before filing;

Five years of good moral character, when applicable under the naturalization requirements; and
